Cameron Denies Taking Brewer Discount

Most Padres fans, including myself, have complained about Mike Cameron signing a deal with the Milwaukee Brewers for less then the Padres had on the table. I think we all assumed Cameron would sign with the Padres, especially after the failed drug tests, and that he would sign for less then he was worth.

When news broke that Cameron was now a Brewer, Padres fans felt betrayed. As it turns out, the reported offers from the Padres were never actually made, at least according to Mike.

When asked why he took less money from a different team, he responded, "That would be stupid, Do you think I would do that? None of the (Padres) offers that kept being thrown out there were what people were saying."

Imagine that, the media reporting things that weren't factual? They made a player look bad for no reason? I personally am a Mike Cameron fan, and I hope it works out for the best. From a Padres stand point, I think they wanted to Jim Edmonds all along, and can you really be upset with having an 8 time gold glover covering the vast Petco Park center field. I think things will work out for both parties involved, but it is at least nice to know the Mike didn't take a crap out in center before leaving town.
