Why Padres Mid Week Day Games are Great

Yesterday, May 7th, I had the pleasure of attending the Padres day game. I personally love day games because nothing beats sitting out in the sun with a beer and watching baseball. It is how the game started and how it was meant to be seen. Pop flys aren't exactly easy outs, and the mood is always lighter out in the sun.

Add that to a relatively small crowd and the fact that you aren't at work, and mid week day games are about as good as it gets. In fact, I love them so much I gave thought to moving to Chicago for a few hours based solely on the fact that the Cubs have so many day games. I like the city too, but come on.

Yesterday was no disappointment, as the lack of attendance gave way to me buying a cheap seat and sitting field level. I don't know if the "guards" are more lax these days when there are less attendees, but they aren't like I remember from the early years of trying to move up.

The Padres gave a nice show, putting a lot of guys on base, and scoring a few runs. Chris Young got some strikeouts when he needed and threw a quality start. In typical Padre fashion, there were too many men left on base, but when the bases were loaded in the bottom of the 10th, David Eckstein didnt waste the opportunity, knocking a base hit down the line, inside of first base.

Sun, excitement, a Padres win, and just icing on the cake is a new beer store, at least new to me. Roughly behind home plate in the main concourse sits a place to buy beer, and we aren't talking the foreign owned American staples, we are talking the small, quality brews. You can get a Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Stone IPA and Alaskan Amber Ale (among many others) are all available. They come in bottles, but being glass, they are served to you in a cup, and they run you a whopping $0.50 more than Miller Lite does at the other stands. Fantastic.
